It is with great pleasure we can now announce that iconic British tableware brand Wedgwood have joined the 2016 Amara Interior Blog Awards as the sponsor of the Best Interior Magazine Blog category. A world renowned institution of elegance and sophistication for the dining table, Wedgwood’s designs have graced the tables of royalty and celebrities for over 250 years and the Gilded Muse collection is the latest print to be added to the brand’s every growing heritage…
The trend for neo-classicism in the late eighteen century brought the ancient art of Greece and Rome to British design with its restrained elegant silhouettes, geometric lines and vivid, colourful scenes capturing the imagination of the nation at the time. It was at this point that Josiah Wedgwood, who always remained at the forefront of fashion, embraced the new style and produced an array of decorative designs for the home which exhibited numerous scenes of the two ancient civilisations.
Celebrating the body of art from the iconic original collection, the new range has been transformed for modern audiences whilst still capturing the unique essence of the first release. Classical figures are pixelated to create a futuristic effect contrasting the characters ancient origins and a play on scale has been introduced bringing the subjects to life through amplifications and off centre placement.
Classic muses have been restored on the new pieces from Homer and Borghese to the Dancing Hours and Lovers, with each figure represented in matt gold against a crisp white background. The clean lines of the collection allow for the designs to truly shine, with simple cylindrical vases, casual mugs and delicately contoured plates. Every design has been pared back so as not to overwhelm or conflict with the gilded detailing, leaving behind a sophisticated range with a flair of opulence.
Tableware pieces are combined with desirable objects for the home in the Gilded Muse collection and the piece de resistance is the set of four wall plates depicting each of the four muses in fluid form. A wonderful collision of the contemporary and the traditional, the collection was released in February of this year. It was an instant classic upon its unveiling and it will soon be available to shop at Amara.
