The Interior Blog Awards Judging Day at Ham Yard Hotel

Yesterday the Amara Interior Blog Awards team took a trip to the ever fabulous Ham Yard Hotel where we met with the awards’ expert judging panel for the anticipated judging day. Including Sam Hood from Amara, Ann Grafton from GP & J Baker, Charlotte Cosby from Farrow & Ball, Jenny Gibbs from KLC Design School, David Harris from Andrew Martin, Lucy Freedman from LucyWillShowYou, Deborah Barker Editor-in-Chief of Homes & Gardens and 25 Beautiful Homes and top interior writer Barbara Chandler, the IBA judging panel certainly know their stuff. With a bright and early start, all judges arrived raring to go and they had all already prepared their top two/three bloggers for each category before the judging day had even gotten underway.

Eager to take full advantage of the beautiful venue we didn’t want the judging day to be held in one of Ham Yard’s many function rooms, we thought we ‘d be a little different and choose one of the hotel’s spectacular suites as our home for the morning. The Terraced Suite was certainly a talking point for everyone in attendance and there wasn’t one person that stepped through the door who didn’t remark on the magnificent Kit Kemp designed apartment with two artfully designed bedrooms, three bathrooms, a lounge, dining room and fully stocked kitchen.

It was decided that instead of sitting formally around the dining table all judges should gather in the lounge to view and discuss the shortlisted blogs, it was at this point we realised we could all have used some of the popcorn from the Ham Yard Theatre where the awards themselves will be hosted. It didn’t take long to get down to business and for opinions to start flying around the room on who were the leading examples in their category.

Understandably, analysing 75 blogs takes a considerable amount of time and every blog was under the same watchful scrutiny of our experts. So with the aid of numerous tea, coffee and croissant breaks, the judges made their way through the fifteen categories making sure that no detail was missed on the many blogs. We are now extremely excited to say that we have our fab fifteen winners and the recipient of this year’s Editors’ Choice has also been decided by Amara’s Creative Director Sam Hood and Jane Pople, Editor-in-Chief of Amara’s online magazine The LuxPad’s.

With only 26 days until the awards ceremony the final preparations are well and truly underway and our next job is to fill the goodie bags ready for the night! Thank you to our wonderful judging panel that took time out of their hectic schedules to take part in the judging day.
