IBA17 Awards Ceremony

A Close up of the #IBA17 Awards Ceremony

It’s safe to say that the Amara Interior Blogs Awards 2017 campaign has flown by with October and the awards ceremony suddenly upon us. Taking place on Wednesday 25th October, the awards ceremony marked the final chapter of the 2017 awards and saw many of the most talented interior bloggers, awards sponsors and judges join together at the Design Museum for an evening of canapés, cocktails and merriment.

Celebrating the colourful and varied interior blogging industry, the IBAs were create to give back to the gifted community and to acknowledge the incredible effort that goes into each of the blogs. A change of location was on the cards this year after spending the last two awards ceremonies at Ham Yard. We wanted a new space which had a distinct connection to the design world, so where better than the newly opened Design Museum in Kensington?

The spectacular atrium became the party area with the IBA logo emblazoned on the John Pawson designed wooden ceiling. The atrium held not one but two bars, one serving bubbling prosecco, beers and soft drinks, whilst the other was created especially for the IBAs by this year’s preferred partner Sipsmith. Offering a classic G & T, the bar also had a Tom Collins with Sipsmith gin fresh lemon, sugar syrup and soda along with a French Blonde containing St Germain, Sipsmith gin and Lillet shaken with fresh grapefruit bitters and rosemary. These three delights certainly went down a treat both pre and post awards!

Once everyone had arrived and had had a chance to catch up with old friends and get to know a few new faces, it was time to head down to the Bakala Auditorium to kick off the ceremony. There were 14 winning blogs crowned on the night by awards hosts Sophie Robinson and Daniel Hopwood including the ten winning blogs for the open categories, the three winners of the additional Best Written, Photography and Designed categories along with the top winner of the night for the Bloggers’ Choice award. The ceremony itself is always a highlight of the night and year on year is filled with emotion as winning bloggers learn their hard work has paid off.

In a whirlwind of entertainment from the hosts, shreaks from the winners and applause from the audience, the ceremony drew to a close and it was time to head back out to the atrium to start celebrating. Highlights of this year’s awards included Emma Jane Palin taking home her very first award ever for Best Colour then promptly picking up another one for Best Designed Blog and Malcolm Begg of Designsixtynine picking up the Bloggers’ Choice award after less than a year of blogging. Emily from The Pink House also delighted us all with her specially decorated jacket emblazoned with ‘Paint the Town Pink’ which clearly worked as her lucky charm much as her iconic pink t-shirt from last year did as she went home with the Best Written Blog award.
