It’s the time of year again when the excitement for the year’s Amara Interior Blog Awards ramps up a notch because there is just one week to go until the 2017 nominations launch! There are so many new additions to this year’s awards so far that we thought we would put them all in one handy post. Here’s what’s new for IBA17…
A Change of Scenery
After spending that last two awards nights at the beautiful Kit Kemp designed Ham Yard hotel we thought it was time to move on and we are extremely excited to announce that the 2017 awards will be held at the brand new Design Museum. Located on High Street Kensington, it is the world’s leading museum dedicated to contemporary design in every form from architecture and fashion to graphics, product and industrial design. Now in its spectacular new home, the Design Museum will provide the perfect backdrop for the 2017 awards ceremony.
Welcoming a Brand New Host
A wildly popular part of the last two awards ceremonies has been host Sophie Robinson whose warmth and wit delighted the audience, but to mix things up slightly this year, her frequent professional partner in the interior design world, Daniel Hopwood, will be joining her. The entertaining duo who have led interior design masterclasses together for the last few years and are perhaps most well known as joint hosts and judges of the BBC Great Interior Design Challenge. Sophie may have left the GIDC in 2016 but hers and Daniel’s bond is still as close as ever and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us on the night.
Categories with a Twist
There have been some changes to our usual award categories this year and there will be ten categories for which you can nominate blogs into. There will be no international categories this year, therefore blogs of every nationality can be nominated into any category based on their content only. As always please just ensure that the blog is written predominantly in English for our judges to be able to assess them.
To best represent the vast array of DIY and craft blogs nominated each year so far, we have now split the category into the Best Craft Blog Award and the Best DIY & Home improvement Blog. We have also made the decision to not continue with the Best Architecture Blog category due to the low number of nominations in previous years but we are sure that many previous nominees in this category will find a home in one of our other options. The final change to our nominable categories is the Best Fashion Inspired Blog has now become the Best Interior Lifestyle Blog award for those that are lifestyle based with still a strong focus on interior design. We are also increasing the number of shortlisted blogs in each category from five to six.
For the 2017 campaign we have launched three special categories to complement our extensive line-up. Like the Bloggers’ Choice Award, the Best Designed Blog, Best Written Blog and Best Use of Photography Blog categories can’t be nominated into or voted for. However unlike the Bloggers’ Choice which is decided on by the shortlisted bloggers themselves, these extra awards will be awarded by our judging panel to those that go above and beyond in these particular areas of their blogs.
A New Bloggers’ Choice Prize
This year we have a rather exciting prize which will go to the overall winner of the night. The lucky blogger will receive an all expenses inclusive trip to one of Spain’s favourite design festivals – Sunny Design Days. Created by Red (the Spanish Design Association) the festival takes place over four days in Barcelona and other cities across the country. A fantastic opportunity to explore some of Spain’s best brands and designs whilst enjoying the Mediterranean environment, the winning blogger will attend some of the hottest events, talks and tours over the summer 2018 event.
We hope we have got you suitably excited for nominations to open next week on the 26th June with our what’s new for IBA17 run down! In the meantime take a look at our judging criteria to read up on which categories your favourite interior blogs should be nominated into.
